Wiretapping complaints against Cheche Lazaro and other ABS-CBN executives

Manila, Philippines –

Just this morning, several broadsheets (Philstar, BusinessWorld, The Daily Tribune) featured the news about the wiretapping complaints filed by GSIS vice president Ella Valencerina against veteran broadcast journalist Cecilia “Cheche” Lazaro. Other respondents to the complaints are ABS-CBN president and chief operating officer Ma. Rosario Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Division head Maria Angelita Ressa, ANC chief operating officer Glenda Gloria, and ANC Director for Current Affairs and Channel Operations David Celdran.

The case stemmed from the alleged action of Cheche to tape her conversation with Valencerina regarding GSIS’s Premium Based Policy without the latter’s knowledge and consent. Furthermore, Valencerina noted that the Probe episode shown last Nov. 12 even included a clip of Cheche speaking with her over the phone. ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs head Maria Ressa, on the other hand, was surprised with the complaint and asserted that Valencerina was well-informed that her conversation with Cheche was being recorded. According to Ressa, Valencerina even agreed to assist in getting Probe an interview with GSIS President Winston Garcia.

With some GSIS people feeling that they’re not gaining fair treatement from ABS-CBN, expect this to be a long battle be it in media or in the courts. If it’s indeed wiretapping or plain media harassment that we will find out in the weeks to come.

  1. Ella Valencerina is just trying to appease her big boss on whatever she said to the probe team. This is just my opinion, she may have said something Winston Garcia did not like.

  2. W. Garcia is an ass. He’ll use everything in his sleeve to try to swipe away those who bother following him around.
