Will Erap run in 2010?
Manila, Philippines –
Top stories carried out in The Manila Times and The Daily Tribune included the reaction of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez to an Erap candidacy in the 2010 elections.
We know that Joseph Estrada had already served more than two years as president before being impeached and removed from office thus Gonzalez argued that he is no longer allowed to run for reelection based on the Constituion and as part presumably of the conditions he agreed to before being granted executive clemency by President Arroyo.
I dare say that this is a lame issue being addressed by Gonzalez. He is better off sticking to his duties in the Department of (In)Justice. Discussing such matters only gives Erap unnecessary media mileage and a venue to promulgate his political ambitions, or whatever is left of it. Two and a half years of Eraption err corruption is enough and I believe majority of Filipinos realized this already hence will not commit the same mistake of putting him back in power.
So, will Erap run in 2010? Well, it doesn’t matter, he won’t win anyway.
