An article in Malaya today centered on the renewed call of Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim for the ouster of President Arroyo. Gen. Lim together with Oakwood mutiny leader Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, both currently detained in Camp Crame, led The Manila Peninsula siege last year in an attempt to persuade other military officers to withdraw support from the President.

Thai protests unlikely to inspire Filipinos into action

BANGKOK, Thailand -

Month-long protests in Thailand have caused a damaging effect on its economy that is dependent on tourism as a primary source of revenue. The latest development has it that anti-government group People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) had already stormed and took over two of Thailand’s airports. This despite the change of leadership just months ago when Samak Sundaravej was removed from office for allegedly protecting ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Fourth impeachment complaint against GMA voted down again

As expected, President Arroyo’s allies in the Lower House junked the impeachment complaint filed by Joey de Venecia by a majotiry vote of 42-8 among the members of the justice committee.

Though sufficiency in substance may have been established through the recital of facts, pro-administration congressmen who voted against the impeachment complaint still argued that offenses included in the complaint are mere rehash. The book entitled “Global Filipino: The Authorized Biography of Joe de Venecia Jr., the Visionary Five-Time Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines” is said to contain first-hand accounts of JdV on the “secret meeting” held in Shenzhen, China among President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr., and ZTE officials in 2006.
